Twitch is looking to enhance its status as the go-to live streaming platform for gamers with its agreement, announced today, to acquire Curse, a global multimedia and technology company focused on creating content and products specifically for gamers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2006, Curse has popular websites offering gamers the expertise and tools — wikis, news, guides and databases — to help them level up their skills. More than 30 million people visit Curse’s website, video channels, social media channels and desktop applications each month.

“We’ve long been fans of Curse, which is an innovator in the games industry with a strong culture built around its offerings — from Curse Voice and Curse Client to Gamepedia,” said Emmett Shear, CEO of Twitch, in a statement. “While it’s still early days for Twitch and Curse, we’re kindred spirits in many ways and are looking forward to working together to enhance our users’ gaming experience.”

Twitch was acquired by Amazon in August 2014 for $970 million. According to the company, it attracts more than 100 million community members each month who watch and discuss video games with more than 1.7 million streamers. While it still reigns as the high scorer in terms of popularity with gamers, it has seen increasing competition from rivals such as YouTube, which launched the YouTube Gaming vertical in Aug. 2015, and Microsoft, which last week purchased Beam Interactive, a competing live streaming platform with dramatically lower latency than Twitch.
